My name is Kindle Tannery, and I've been doing CrossFit for five years. I've always had a desire to be fit, but I never really had any structure. I always had a gym membership, but rarely went. I love the outdoors and hiking, but I found myself struggling on hikes that I loved to do.
Then there was a photo taken of me on one of those hikes that changed my life. I saw myself differently. I felt different. I decided I needed to make some changes.
At the time, I didn't know much about CrossFit except that people made fun of CrossFitters for being fanatical about CrossFit. I remember thinking, maybe that's exactly what I need. Something I can get drawn into that will actually keep me going.
There were several gyms in the area, but I decided to check out CrossFit Incite. I showed up for a free trial, and it totally kicked my butt. But what stood out even more was the community. Everyone was incredibly welcoming, and the coaches were friendly, encouraging, and genuinely interested in helping me. Coach Tyler and Coach Janalynn played a huge part in getting me to come back.
I decided to just go for it. I signed up and committed to giving it a real chance. It was intimidating at first, but I kept showing up. After a few weeks, something changed. I actually started craving the workouts that had been crushing me! CrossFit became part of my routine and part of my life.
About a year in, I heard about a competition the gym was hosting called the Desert City Classic. I had no clue what that was, so I came down that weekend to watch. I saw all these amazing athletes competing and realized CrossFit wasn't just fitness and exercise. It could also be a sport.
I challenged myself right then to compete the following year.
I spent the next year working hard, improving my skills, getting stronger, and making healthier choices at home. I put a team together and signed up for the Desert City Classic.
It was an incredibly challenging competition, and we took third place.
Coach Janalynn was there to direct us to the podium, and standing there was truly one of the happiest moments of my life. I thought about where I had started just two years earlier, struggling through hikes and unhappy with where I was. Now I was standing on a podium celebrating something I never would have imagined myself doing.
CrossFit has continued to be a journey of learning, growing, making friends, and having experiences I never expected. It has truly been a blessing in my life.
CrossFit isn't just about fitness. It's about challenging yourself, putting yourself in uncomfortable situations, and learning that you can overcome whatever challenge is in front of you. Mentally, that has helped me in every aspect of my life.
At CrossFit Incite, we have great coaches and an incredible community that's supportive, encouraging, and motivating. It's a place where people notice when you show up, push you to be better, celebrate your accomplishments, and make you want to keep coming back.
I look forward to it every day.
Well... most days. 😂
